Ensuring Equality: Understanding the Impact of New York State’s Proposed ERA Amendment
The Legislative Committee of the Women In Law Section is sponsoring a CLE on the proposed New York State ERA Amendment. This proposal, to amend the Equal Protection Clause of the New York State Constitution by the inclusion of the Equal Rights Amendment, will be on the New York State ballot this November. If approved, it would ensure that ethnicity, national origin, age, disability, sex, including sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, pregnancy, pregnancy outcomes, and reproductive healthcare and autonomy are all protected by the Constitution, regardless of changes to other laws. Speakers will discuss the terms of the proposed Amendment and its potential impact on State laws.
