The Intersection Of Intimate Partner Violence In LGBTQ Communities – Video Replay

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. However, did you know that research indicates LGBTQ people experience domestic violence at similar or even higher rates than heterosexual, cisgender people? Most legal practitioners do not, but it is this lack of visibility and information that allows abuse to hide in the shadows. Participants will learn more about the dynamics of intimate partner violence in these communities, as well as the barriers to assistance that can help interrupt abuse. Our panel will also discuss how the patchwork or downright lack of legal protections can be used as a tool of coercive control. Finally, we will explore several recent ethics opinions and policy changes that provide insight into the representation of LGBTQ clients, and our professional responsibility as advocates.
