Timely Representation in CPS Investigations

For adults who qualify for assigned counsel under the Family Court Act § 262, timely, interdisciplinary representation when they are subject to a “child protective services” (CPS) investigation and possible family separation may prevent unnecessary further involvement with CPS and Family Court, saving children from foster care. This presentation will explain this representation model, and how this practice can be utilized to preserve family autonomy. Speakers will also share how they overcame some of the obstacles to implementing timely representation and share examples of how timely representation has been introduced and maintained in different areas of New York.
