John Knight of Columbia Law School and Maxwell Meadows of Fordham University School of Law are the 2014 recipients of the Antitrust Section Law Student Fellowships, The New York Bar Foundation has announced.

Knight and Maxwell will each receive $6,000 to work this summer in the Antitrust Division of the U.S. Department of Justice in New York City.

“We are pleased to recognize two outstanding law students who have demonstrated exceptional promise,” said Barbara Hart of White Plains (Lowey Dannenberg Cohen & Hart), chair of the State Bar Association’s Antitrust Law Section. “They both will gain invaluable legal experience in their fields.”

Knight graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles in 2012 and worked as a legal assistant at Isaacman, Kaufman & Painter. He expects to graduate from Columbia Law in 2016.

“It’s hard to imagine something more in line with my own ambition,” said Knight. “Starting my legal career with the Antitrust Section Fellowship is an incredible opportunity.”

A cum laude graduate of the College of William and Mary, Meadows expects to graduate from Fordham Law in 2015. He previously was a legal intern at the Federal Trade Commission.

“I am excited to have been selected by The New York Bar Foundation to serve as a fellow with the Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice,” said Meadows.  “Working alongside the staff of the New York Field Office on criminal prosecutions of antitrust violations is a fantastic opportunity to learn and to protect consumers by enforcing laws central to a fair system of competition.”

The New York Bar Foundation, a nonprofit, philanthropic organization, receives charitable contributions from individuals, law firms, corporations and other entities. It provides grants to further its goals of promoting and advancing: service to the public, improvements in the administration of justice, legal research and education, high standards of professional ethics, and public understanding of legal heritage.
