The death of a loved one is a painful moment that has profound consequences. Shortly after this emotionally significant moment, decisions regarding the disposition of the decedent’s remains must be made. The manner in which we dispose of remains matters to loved ones, who often times have differing opinions, can lead to differences of opinion and actionable disputes. This program addresses the statutory and case-based authorities concerning the disposition of human remains, including the order of priority for deciding how to dispose of human remains and the disinterment of human remains. In addition, the program provides guidance on how best to assist clients in avoiding disputes concerning the disposition of their remains.
