SFFA v. Harvard and UNC: Immediate Effects and Future Implications
In June 2023, in a landmark ruling in Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard and UNC, the U.S. Supreme Court prohibited the consideration of race as a factor in college admissions, leading to uncertainty and varying responses on the part of America’s universities. A year later, those institutions have reported the results of their first admission cycle since SFFA, including the racial makeup of their admitted classes. Based on those results, SFFA quickly invoked the prospect of litigation against certain institutions, including Princeton, Yale, and Duke. Our expert panel will address these issues and discuss the path forward for educational institutions and their stakeholders, as well as the broader implications of SFFA beyond the educational sector.
