Who Helps When A Lawyers Is The One In Need/AM2018

Total Credits: 3.0 Professional Practice

Attorneys with disabilities, whether chronic, episodic, or temporary, have professional challenges unique to all other professions.  In addition, studies demonstrate that attorneys experience disability related to alcohol use disorders at a rate much higher than other populations, and members of our profession also suffer significant rates of potentially disabling depression & anxiety. Added to this, the ethical concerns related to practicing with disability and seeking support and assistance during periods of disability can be daunting.

This program is designed to assist lawyers practicing law with disabilities. Speakers will address the National Task Force on Lawyer Well-Being report, ethical rules, the Family Medical Leave Act in New York State with a particular emphasis on the Act’s applicability to lawyers with disabilities and the prevalence of behavioral health concerns among lawyers with a discussion of the avenues for assistance.
