Long Island Attorneys Win Prestigious State Bar Awards

The New York State Bar Association is recognizing two Nassau County attorneys for their contributions to the law.
Elissa Rosenthal of Roslyn Heights (Franchina Law Group) will receive the General Practice Section Award on Jan. 19. The award honors an individual who is outstanding, innovative and has made significant contributions to improve the daily practice of law for general practitioners in New York State.
“Elissa Rosenthal was a dynamic chair invigorating our section with new energy and greater visibility,” said Domenick Napoletano, chair of the General Practice Section. “We are thrilled to recognize her work.”
Rosenthal chaired the General Practice Section from 2019 to 2020. A fellow of The New York Bar Foundation, Rosenthal is also a member of the Elder Law and Special Needs Section and the Committee on Cannabis Law.
Tricia Prettypaul of Valley Stream (Travelers Companies) recently received the Trial Lawyers Section Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Vanguard Award. The award is presented to a trial attorney who has made extraordinary efforts to address and raise awareness about issues of equity, diversity and inclusion.
“Through her words and actions, Tricia Prettypaul has been a force for change to the next generation of trial lawyers,” said Betty Lugo, chair of the Trial Lawyers Section. “She is a richly deserving recipient of this inaugural award.”
Prettypaul is chair of Travelers’ NYC Diversity Committee and lead of the NYC Pride Diversity Network. Within the State Bar, she is a member of the LGBTQ People and the Law Section and the Task Force on Attorney Well-Being.
Honoring attorneys who render extraordinary service to the public and the profession is part of NYSBA’s Annual Meeting tradition. The 144th Annual Meeting will focus on more than 65 different topics each day from Jan. 19 to 29. Subjects include Employment Litigation in the Wake of COVID-19, Conducting a Jury Trial in the Shadow of COVID-19, State Tax Implications From the Pandemic and Vaccines: Legal Mandates and Challenges.
The Presidential Summit on Wednesday, Jan. 27, will look at the COVID-19 Pandemic: Legal, Constitutional, and Public Health Issues. One of the nation’s top constitutional law scholars, Erwin Chemerinsky, dean of Berkeley Law, and Irwin Redlener, a pediatrician, public health activist, author, academic, and advisor, will speak at the event.
Other featured speakers at the Annual Meeting include Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota, Pascal Saint-Amans, director of the Centre for Tax Policy and Administration, Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and Jeh Johnson, former U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security.
