1.28.2014
Rochester attorney Connie O. Walker is the 2014 recipient of the Kay Crawford Murray Award, given by the Committee on Women in the Law of the New York State Bar Association.
The award, which Walker received on January 28 during the association’s Annual Meeting in New York City, recognizes an attorney who enhances diversity in the profession and advances the professional development of women attorneys. It is named for Kay Crawford Murray, a past chair of the Committee on Women in the Law.
“Connie Walker is a dynamic and inspirational leader. She has mentored countless attorneys throughout their careers,” said Ellen G. Makofsky of Garden City (Raskin & Makofsky), co-chair of the Committee on Women in the Law. “She is a most deserving recipient of this award.”
“Attorneys like Connie Walker enrich the legal profession and the greater community. Her passion for the law is equaled only by her love of people,” said Anna S. Park of Manhattan (Zeichner Ellman & Krause), co-chair of the Committee on Women in the Law. “It is fitting that we recognize her accomplishments.”
A graduate of the State University College at Brockport and Syracuse University College of Law, Walker is a law clerk to U.S. District Court Judge Frank P. Geraci, Jr. She is the immediate past president of the Monroe County Bar Association.
Within the State Bar Association, Walker is a member of the Attorneys in Public Service and Leadership Development committees. She also is a member of the Rochester Black Bar Association and the Greater Rochester Association for Women Attorneys.
Kay Crawford Murray, for whom the award is named, is former general counsel for the New York City Department of Juvenile Justice. As chair of the Committee on Women in the Law, she directed a report that proposed a model sexual harassment policy for law firms.
The 75,000-member New York State Bar Association is the largest voluntary state bar association in the nation. It was founded in 1876.
