Official: Poor need more civil legal services

A top state court official told Chief Judge Janet DiFiore on Monday that more funding is needed to provide civil legal representation for the poor, including relatives caring for the children of opioid-addicted parents.
Grandparents and other relatives of the children have become desperate for attorneys to help them navigate the legal hurdles of the Family Court system, said Edwina G. Mendelson, a deputy chief administrative judge who heads the court system’s Office of Justice Initiatives.
