Henry M. “Hank” Greenberg will be sworn in as the 122nd president of the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA) today at a 6 p.m. ceremony at the Bar Center in Albany. Chief Judge Janet DiFiore will administer the oath of office during the ceremony.

Greenberg has already announced several groundbreaking initiatives since becoming president on June 1, including the creation of the NYSBA Task Force on Autonomous Vehicles and the Law. The task force will study and understand the seismic impact that autonomous vehicles will have on our legal system and society, and make recommendations on how New York State and its legal institutions can prepare for this revolutionary technological change.

Additionally, Greenberg announced that NYSBA will take unprecedented steps to diversify leadership as all 59 NYSBA committees, task forces and working groups will be chaired, co-chaired or vice-chaired by women, people of color or other individuals who represent diversity. Greenberg said it is “a moral imperative that our profession better reflects the diversity exemplified by our clients,” and also announced that NYSBA will develop and implement an association-wide diversity and inclusion plan in the coming year.

In the coming days and weeks, Greenberg said he would announce other initiatives focused on a range of legal subjects and public policy issues that merit examination and recommendations for reform.

Greenberg is a shareholder at Greenberg Traurig and concentrates his practice on civil litigation, criminal and civil investigations, and regulatory and administrative law. He is a former counsel to then-New York State Attorney General (now Governor) Andrew M. Cuomo, general counsel for the New York State Department of Health, and a federal prosecutor. Among other government posts, he also served as a law clerk to then-Associate Judge (later Chief Judge) Judith S. Kaye of the New York Court of Appeals. He is a graduate of Syracuse University College of Law.

The event will take place:

Thursday, June 6 – 6 p.m.
NYSBA Bar Center
1 Elk St.
Albany, NY 12207
