Judges Paul G. Feinman, George J. Silver, Randall T. Eng and Karen K. Peters have been honored by the Judicial Section of the New York State Bar Association. The jurists received their awards January 26 at the State Bar Association’s Annual Meeting in New York City.

“This year we recognized four judges who represent the exemplary judicial bench that this state has,” said Judge Conrad Singer, presiding member of the Judicial Section. “The Judicial Section is pleased to honor these outstanding jurists and their contributions to the legal profession.”

Feinman, who received the Distinguished Jurist Award, was appointed to the New York State Court of Appeals last year as an associate justice. He is the first gay justice on the Court of Appeals and has served on the Civil Court of New York City, state Supreme Court, and as an associate justice of the Appellate Division, First Department.

Silver, who received the Advancement of Judicial Diversity Award, is the deputy chief administrative judge for the New York City Courts. Silver is a member of the Association’s Committee on Diversity and Inclusion and Torts, Insurance & Compensation Law Section’s Executive Committee. He is also involved with many community-based organizations such as the NAACP.

Eng, who received lifetime achievement recognition, retired from the bench on Dec. 31, 2017. He had been presiding justice of the Appellate Division, Second Department and previously served as a Supreme Court justice. He was appointed to the Appellate Division in 2008, becoming the second Asian-American judge to serve on the state appellate court.

Peters also received lifetime achievement recognition after retiring from the bench at the end of 2017. She began her judicial career as an elected family court judge in Ulster County. In 1992, she was the first woman elected to the state Supreme Court in the Third Department. Two years later, she was appointed to the Appellate Division and in 2012, became the Third Department’s first woman presiding justice.
