New York State Bar Association President Calls Senseless Mass Shootings Too Much To Bear, Urges Stricter Control

Scott M. Karson, president of the New York State Bar Association, issued the following statement today:

As president of the New York State Bar Association, I find myself called upon once again to express our collective sorrow at the senseless killings that have occurred within just one week, in Boulder, Colo. and Atlanta, Ga., due to the scourge of gun violence. These tragic events serve as a grim reminder that gun violence in the U.S. is out of control. I ask myself how many more expressions of sympathy will I have occasion to issue before some meaningful action is taken to address this terrible problem. We call on Congress to truly represent the American people who have said in poll after poll that they favor stricter gun control measures. The New York State Bar Association joins with President Joe Biden in urging Congress to ban large-capacity magazines that hold more than ten rounds of ammunition and enact universal background checks for all gun sales.

Here is a complete list of NYSBA’s recommendations on gun control.
