September 25, 2018: Meet World Renowned Robot ‘Sophia’ at NYSBA International Law Section Conference in Montreal Next Month

An artificial intelligence panel that includes Sophia the Robot and a keynote address from the Rt. Hon. Richard Wagner, chief justice of the Supreme Court of Canada, highlight the New York State Bar Association’s International Section Seasonal Meeting at the InterContinental Hotel in Montreal, Canada Oct. 23-26.
On Thursday, Oct. 25 at 10 a.m., a panel entitled “Artificial Intelligence — The Promise, the Peril, and the Law” will feature Sophia the Robot and her creator, David Hanson of Hanson Robotics. The panel will be moderated by the managing director of Google Canada and features the CEO of a company that builds AI tools for lawyers; a university professor noted for his work on artificial neural networks and deep learning; and attorneys from two leading law firms.
“The New York State Bar Association (NYSBA) proudly serves members worldwide, including our international lawyers, by providing them with the most up-to-date information, as exemplified with this groundbreaking conference in Montreal,” said NYSBA President Michael Miller, who will be attending the event.
Sophia is a much-sought-after media personality who advocates for AI research and the role of robotics in people’s lives. She has already appeared on 60 Minutes, the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Good Morning Britain and spoken at numerous prestigious conferences. She has also addressed members of the United Nations and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
Other panels at the Seasonal Meeting include: Hot Topics in Immigration Law, Cannabis Legalization and Distribution, Breach and Incident Response, and Cybersecurity Ethics and Compliance Issues for Multinational Lawyers. In addition, Rt. Hon. Richard Wagner, chief justice of the Supreme Court of Canada, will deliver a lunch keynote address on Oct. 25.
