3.1.2022
From WHEC, News10NBC in Rochester: President Brown was interviewed for reaction to President Biden’s nomination of Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court.
It aired on the 11pm News Friday February 25, 2022.
T. Andrew Brown says not only is Ketanji Brown Jackson well qualified, he says her credentials are impeccable. Brown says this historic appointment underscores the importance of diversity and equity.
Brown’s term at the NYS Bar Association is ending this summer. Jackson is 51 and currently serving on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. She’s also worked in private practice and as a public defender.
This fulfills one of President Biden’s campaign promises to nominate a black women for the Supreme Court.
Brown says it’s about time. “People need to have trust and faith in the court, the highest court in the land,” he said. “If that’s going to happen, the court has to look like America. Having an African American member of the Supreme Court is well overdue.”
Five women and two black men have served on the high court. Judge Jackson would be the first black woman. She’s scheduled to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee at the end of April.
Then Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer says he’ll ask the full Senate to confirm her to the Supreme Court.
