What is the Family Law Section Summer Meeting?
The Family Law Section hosts a 3-day meeting every Summer in a different city to provide matrimonial and family law attorneys the opportunity to meet, network and expand their practices. Our most recent meetings have been held in Newport (RI) in 2022, Saratoga Springs (NY) in 2019, and in Manchester (VT) in 2018.

Addiction and Substance Abuse in Custody Cases: Assessing, Monitoring, and Determining Best Pathways for the Health and Safety of Children
We will hear from experts in the field of substance abuse as to how best to approach a custody matter that involves substance abuse and/or addiction, including options for using mental health experts to assist in assessing addiction and abuse, as well as making recommendations; how to address parenting time and decision making when one or both parents have substance abuse issues; how to assess and handle a case where there are claims of false allegations of substance abuse. The panel includes a forensic psychiatrist, certified in addiction psychiatry; a representative of Soberlink, an alcohol monitoring device used frequently in custody matters; and an experienced parenting coordinator, who will discuss various approaches and tools for helping parties resolve parenting issues where substance abuse is an issue.

- In the summer months, you can’t ski the trails without snow, but you can get your heart racing. The idea is to simulate the rush biathletes feel as they try to line up a target. Then you’ll step up to the range in our Cross Country Stadium, take aim, and fire a 22 rifle or a paintball gun (12 & under) to test your marksmanship. Come out and see how you do; it’s worth a shot!
- Bobsled Experience | $125 per person
- Come experience this one-of-a-kind action sport for yourself! Cruise down the track like our world-class athletes, reaching speeds over 50 miles per hour. Zoom around banked turns on our almost mile long track. You’ll live the adventure, the Bobsled Experience in Lake Placid is one of the few locations on earth where you can participate in this fast and furious sport. - Bobsled Experience | $125 per person
- Come experience this one-of-a-kind action sport for yourself! Cruise down the track like our world-class athletes, reaching speeds over 50 miles per hour. Zoom around banked turns on our almost mile long track. You’ll live the adventure, the Bobsled Experience in Lake Placid is one of the few locations on earth where you can participate in this fast and furious sport. Adrenaline seekers and families alike will relish this once in a lifetime experience!
- Ride Requirements:
- First and Second Passengers must be at least 9 years old and 52 inches tall.
- Third Passengers must be at least 13 years old and 52 inches tall.
- The maximum weight per passenger is 300 lbs.
- Important: The Bobsled Experience is a high-speed ride that features many sudden twists and turns, which may cause participants to be jolted throughout the ride. For your protection, this ride is not recommended for guests with head, neck, or bone injuries, recent surgery, heart trouble, high blood pressure, heart conditions, or guest who are pregnant.

- 12:00 pm Meet outside the clubhouse
- 12:00 pm – 12:30 pm Boxed Lunch
- 12:15 pm Starting Tee Times
How to Register
- Register for the 2023 Family Law Section Summer Meeting, add “Golf Tournament” to your registration, and pay the necessary fees.
- Fredric Siegel (Golf Tournament Chair) will email participants additional details such as the list of team members for each team.
Rules
- Please get to the golf course before your tee time as we are on a strict schedule.
- Format is a Step Aside Scrambled.
- One score for each team and no handicaps.
- Everyone drives and everyone putts.
- The person whose shot is used steps aside and does not hit. For example, if we use player X’s drive, he steps aside and does not hit. If the next shot of player Y is used, player X would hit but not Player Y. This does not apply on the green.
- You must use four drives of each golfer.
- Each player gets two mulligans to use any time.
- Each player gets one throw to use at any time but it counts as a stroke if used.
- There will be a male and female closest to the pin (they will let you know at the course) but no longest drive competition).
- White tees for men and red for women.
- One member of the team needs to email their score to Frederic Siegel at [email protected] when finished.
- Box lunch and drink provided for each golfer.
- One stroke penalty if you do not have fun.
