Civil and Criminal Investigations and Enforcement of Environmental Law in NYS
This program will cover civil and criminal investigations and enforcement of environmental laws by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and the New York State Attorney General’s Office (AG’s Office). A law enforcement Officer at DEC, DEC’s Regional Attorney for New York City, and a criminal prosecutor from the AG’s Office will discuss the kinds of violations that are pursued criminally versus civilly and how cases move through DEC and the AG’s Office. The panelists will also highlight some of the exciting cases they have handled. This program will benefit both junior and more experienced environmental attorneys, as it will provide helpful background on environmental enforcement processes and offer a glimpse into the sophisticated yet not well-known work of DEC’s Division of Law Enforcement.
