The New York State Bar Association is set to host a free presentation on the sexual violence perpetrated against women and children during Hamas’ attack on Israel on Oct. 7.
Cochav Elkayam-Levy, chair of the Civil Commission on October 7 Crimes by Hamas Against Women and Children and recipient of the Israel Prize, will lead the presentation. She is an internationally recognized expert on human rights, international law and feminist legal theories.
“Dr. Elkayam-Levy has been at the forefront in raising awareness about the rapes and sexual violence that were perpetrated on Oct. 7,” said Domenick Napoletano, president of the New York State Bar Association. “The world needs to be aware of the horrors of Hamas’ attack. As legal professionals, it is our responsibility to break the silence and hold the responsible parties accountable under international law.”
The program, “Sexual Violence as a Weapon of War with a Focus on October 7th,” will take place on Thursday, June 20, from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.
It is free to attend. Journalists interested in attending should contact Rebecca Melnitsky at [email protected] or Susan DeSantis at [email protected].
Richard Lewis, immediate past president of the New York State Bar Association, will make introductory remarks.
Attendees will receive one Continuing Legal Education credit. The program is sponsored by the association’s Women in Law Section and International Section.
