The failed Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) represented a bygone era of open markets. The absence of similar agreements between the US and EU has affected economic growth and inflation. Strengthening economic ties is crucial, especially amidst tensions with China and the green transition.
Green industrial policies can be a double-edged sword. While protectionist measures support domestic green tech development, they may also strain international trade relations.
In August 2022, the US enacted the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), introducing the Clean Vehicle Credit, which subsidizes certain eco-friendly vehicles. Without a comprehensive US-EU free trade agreement, negotiations for a Critical Minerals Agreement (CMA) are underway to foster EU-US supply chains.
ESG considerations are reshaping supply chains, driven by regulatory developments, especially in the EU, and investor demand. The EU's new rules, like the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD), present both challenges and opportunities. In the US, climate reporting requirements vary by state, with some opposing ESG policies.
This webinar will address the evolving trade negotiations, the future of trade and investments, and the development of ESG and climate disclosure policies in both regions. Panelists will discuss cross-border trade issues and green industrial policies.
