If your practice involves international trade, litigation and emerging technologies, Seoul, South Korea, is the place to be this fall for the annual New York State Bar Association’s International Section Global Conference. Each year, lawyers from around the world convene in a different city to tackle the leading issues facing international lawyers.  The theme of this year’s event is “Cross Border Litigation and Transactions Under a New Legal Paradigm.”

The conference takes place at Hanyang University from Oct. 16 to 18. Over three days you will have access to nearly three dozen informative events on a wide range of issues with engaging speakers who are leaders in their fields. Registration is open now.

The conference will open with a welcoming address by Judge Roh Tae-Ak, Justice of the Supreme Court of Korea. Roh has sat on the high court since 2020 and also heads the National Election Commission.

Judge Jennifer Choe-Groves of the U.S. Court of International Trade is the keynote speaker of the first plenary session offering insight on new developments in the practice of law and advice on effective brief writing practices. She will be joined by U.S. District Court Judge Sidney Stein of the Southern District of New York.

“Weathering the Storm of IP Litigation and Trade War” is a highlight of day two with a focus on intellectual property rights and day three includes a session with SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce, “New Frontiers in Regulations of Crypto.” Peirce will be appearing at the conference virtually.

“Our International Section has assembled the A-Team of legal minds on a variety of issues important to the international lawyer,” said New York State Bar Association President Domenick Napoletano. “I can’t wait to travel to Seoul to learn and network from such a distinguished group of industry leaders.”

The panels are arranged in three tracks and cover a range of issues such as cross border disputes and litigation, artificial intelligence, antitrust enforcement, financial fraud and intellectual property rights.

Here are some of the topics the conference will cover:

  • Cross-Border Enforcement of Foreign Judgments.
  • Changes and Challenges in Dispute Resolution in the Asia-Pacific region.
  • Trends in International Merger and Acquisition Litigation.
  • How the U.S. Presidential Election May Impact Antitrust Enforcement.
  • Economic Incentives for Cross-Border Investments.

In addition to informational sessions and workshops, there will be time to explore Seoul including a visit to the Gwangjang Market on Thursday night and the gala reception and dinner at the Floating Island Convention on Friday night. Registration is open and hotel accommodations are still available.
