Language Justice for New Yorkers
This year is the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which establishes the federal right to language access. During this session, we will provide an overview of language justice concepts and current legal mandates. Building on the concepts and mandates we review, we will discuss opportunities for language justice advocacy at the state and local level, through the examples of Long Island and Monroe County. You hear from the NYS Office of Language Access about their work to oversee the efficient and effective implementation of the new language access law across state agencies.
