New York State Bar Association Hosts World Class Trusts and Estates Conference

The New York State Bar Association’s Sophisticated Trusts and Estates Institute is a world class event where attorneys learn all the latest developments in their field. The Institute is being held on Nov. 19 at Rockefeller Plaza in midtown Manhattan.
This signature New York State Bar Association event began in 2003 as a two-day event for experienced attorneys to rival that of longer events held annually in Florida and Hawaii. Following the COVID pandemic, the event was trimmed to one day.
“You’re getting all the material you would get in a national conference staying relatively local to the tri-state area,” says attorney and event organizer Joshua Rubenstein. “The one-day format has become popular, who can’t kill one day on their calendar?”
Rubenstein says the NYSBA conference offers access to the most up to date information from national experts on a wide range of topics including ethics, federal and state regulation, and developments in modern parentage. While other conferences may focus solely on tax implications, this event touches on planning, administration, and litigation of trusts and estates law.
“Knowing a little something about taxes, a little something about administration, and a little something about litigation, makes you better at all three,” he says.
Rubenstein is especially proud of the inclusion this year of a discussion on ethics and the impact of technology on the practice. Discussions will include the latest changes relating to estate planning including cryptocurrency, digital assets and fertility technology.
In addition to Rubenstein, who is a partner at Katten Muchin Rosenman, there will be other nationally recognized leaders in the trust and estates field including:

Attendees will earn 8 MCLE credits. The event also qualifies for 4.5 continuing legal education credits. Rubenstein says it is well worth the time to stay current in the field.
“You must be out there at a conference like ours, learning the latest and the greatest, because change is a constant. Unpredictable change and controversy are the norm,” he said.
