At NYSBA’s House of Delegates meeting on Nov. 2, the members took a moment to reflect on the tremendous impact Maryann Saccomando Freedman, the first female president of the New York State Bar Association, had on the New York legal community and the bar association.

President-Elect Kathleen Sweet eulogized her and introduced a nine-minute tribute full of recollections of her life and excerpts from her last interview with David Miranda on the “Miranda Warnings” podcast, a production of the New York State Bar Association.

“She taught all of us to push past boundaries, especially the ones that we erect for ourselves,” Sweet said. “She was the heart and soul of every organization she belonged to and eventually she was the leader of them.”

She died in June 2024.
