N.Y. State CLE Board Revokes Permission for Newly Admitted Attorneys To Take Skills Classes Online

5.7.2025

By Susan DeSantis

Newly admitted attorneys will have to take skills classes in person, the NY State CLE board announced, revoking a concession that was made to keep attorneys safe during the COVID pandemic.

The pandemic-related changes expire on June 30, but newly admitted attorneys can continue to take live, simultaneous classes by web and videoconference until Dec. 31.

Starting in 2026, newly admitted attorneys will have to take all skills classes in a traditional classroom setting or in a fully interactive videoconference where the entire class sits together in one room.

The board announced the changes on April 30.  More details are available here.
