2025 Disability Rights and Justice Series: Ethical Considerations in Health Care

This program examines current surrogate decision making statutes for people who lack capacity to make their own health care decisions across the spectrum of health care interventions; major medical treatment, life sustaining treatment, palliative care, medical aid in dying. Faculty was asked to comment on the intersection of surrogate decision making and supported decision-making models in health care settings. Ethical guidelines could be juxtaposed against statutory requirements and perhaps focus on the role of hospital ethics committees.
