Sign Up for Bridging the Gap Before CLE Credit Rules Change in 2026
11.7.2025

Newly admitted attorneys are encouraged to register for the New York State Bar Association’s Bridging the Gap program on Dec. 9-10 which will be the last of these courses offered fully online.
Attorneys can satisfy all of their annual MCLE requirements by attending the two-day program, which is ideal for “bridging the gap” between law school and the realities of practicing law in New York State.
Beginning Jan. 1, newly-admitted attorneys will no longer have the option of earning continuing legal education skills credit by webinar. The skills credits must be earned in an in-person event or a group meeting with an interactive videoconference.
COVID Era Changes Expire
It was during the COVID-19 pandemic that New York State’s Unified Court System began allowing newly-admitted attorneys to take skills classes by webinar. As of Dec. 31, that will not longer be allowed. The policy change was announced in April.
The Bridging the Gap course offered by the New York State Bar Association is also approved for MCLE credit by the State Bar of California, the Pennsylvania Continuing Legal Education Board and the Board on Continuing Legal Education of the Supreme Court of New Jersey. Uniform certificates of attendance can also be issued for other states.
