New York State Commission on Judicial Nomination Seeks Applications for Associate Judge of New York Court of Appeals

The New York State Commission on Judicial Nomination today announced that the Commission is seeking recommendations and applications for persons who may be qualified to serve as an Associate Judge of the New York Court of Appeals. On February 10, 2027, a vacancy will exist on the Court of Appeals due to the expiration of Senior Associate Judge Jenny Rivera’s term.
Candidates for this vacancy may download application forms from the Commission’s website (www.nysegov.com/cjn) or contact the Commission’s Counsel, Henry M. Applications may be filed electronically by e-mailing them to CJN_Applications@gtlaw.com or submitted by mail to the Commission’s Counsel. The deadline to submit applications is Aug. 10.
Also, the Commission announced that it elected Elizabeth R. Fine to serve as the Commission’s new chairperson. The chairperson presides over Commission meetings and acts as the Commission’s sole spokesperson. Fine, who served as counsel to Gov. Kathy Hochul, was appointed to the Commission on June 30, 2025. She is the seventh chair in the Commission’s history.
Under New York’s State Constitution, the Commission on Judicial Nomination is charged with evaluating, and then recommending to the governor, candidates to fill vacancies on the state’s highest court. The governor’s appointment is subject to confirmation by the New York Senate.
