Beyond Sandy Hook: The Intersection of Disinformation, Conspiracy Theories, and Gun Violence is a free event at 1 p.m. Jan. 10 featuring New York Times journalist and author Elizabeth Williamson and Sandy Hook attorney Monte Frank. Williamson is the author of Sandy Hook: An American Tragedy and the Battle for Truth.
This discussion will focus on the real-world consequences of misinformation and conspiracy theories, from their impact on fomenting violence to the effect they have had on political discourse. The speakers will also discuss the role lawyers and courts can play in stopping disinformation and standing up for truth and the rule of law. It will be moderated by Wayne McKenzie, chief of the Manhattan DA’s Office’s Pathways to Public Safety Division.
The event is sponsored by New York County District Attorney Alvin Bragg and the ABA Standing Committee on Gun Violence. It will be held at the District Attorney’s office at 80 Centre St. in Manhattan.
