The Environmental and Energy Law Section (the “Section”) is committed to having a diverse membership so that those who participate in the Section’s activities and the products of the Section’s work will be enriched and enhanced by the different perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences of its members. To follow up on this commitment, the Diversity & Inclusion Committee (the “Committee”) proposes various targeted actions each year. Since the Section established the Committee in 2003, the Committee has worked in partnership other Section committees to highlight diversity and inclusion values in the Section’s mission statement, nominations, and speaker selection; promote membership outreach to diverse communities of attorney and law student; and increase opportunities for new members for become more engaged in the Section and published in the Section’s publication, The New York Environmental Lawyer. Currently, a main focus of the Committee is to build the success of its Diversity & Inclusion Fellowship, which provides a stipend for diverse law students to work for a summer in a government agency or public interest organization involved in environmental or energy law.

All Section members are welcome to join the Committee. The Committee Co-Chairs, Christine Leas and Sarah Lobe, can be emailed directly at [email protected] and [email protected].
