Dr. Mohamed F. Sweify is a bilingual dual-qualified attorney at Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP with experience counseling, arbitrating, and litigating complex domestic, transnational, and international disputes, including commercial, investment, telecommunication, partnership, and shareholder disputes, oil and gas, construction, Islamic finance, and white-collar crime investigations. Dr. Sweify has handled cross-border disputes before the U.S. federal and state courts and under major arbitration rules, including the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), the American Arbitration Association/International Centre for Dispute Resolution (AAA-ICDR), the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), JAMS, the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), the Saudi Center for Commercial Arbitration (SCCA), the Cairo Regional Center for International Commercial Arbitration (CRCICA), and the UNCITRAL Arbitration Rules. Through his practice that versed in civil and common law jurisdictions, Mohamed has handled international disputes before arbitral tribunals seated in different jurisdictions and before arbitrators with diverse backgrounds. He also has had prosecutorial experience in Egypt, where he handled governmental corruption and financial crimes investigations. In addition, Dr. Sweify is an adjunct professor at Fordham Law School.

Dr. Sweify holds leadership positions in the international arbitration field, including the Chair of the International Dispute Resolution Committee at the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA). In 2023, Dr. Sweify was appointed as a member of the CPR’s Young Steering Committee (Y-ADR). In 2022, he was appointed by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) as a delegate for the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR. That same year, Dr. Sweify was awarded the Africa’s 30 Most Promising Arbitration Practitioners Award. In addition, Dr. Sweify is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) and the youngest arbitrator listed on the National Roster of Arbitrators of the American Arbitration Association (AAA/ICDR). In 2021, Dr. Sweify was awarded the Middle East Policy Center (MEPC) “40 Under 40” Award. Recently, Dr. Sweify was awarded the “40 Under 40” Award by Arab America Foundation as one of the most accomplished Arab Americans in the U.S. in 2024.

Dr. Sweify read law in the U.S. and Egypt. He holds a Doctorate of Law degree in international arbitration from Fordham University School of Law and two LL.M. degrees in International Business Law and in International Commercial and Investment Arbitration from the United States.
