Trauma, Burnout and the High-Performing Lawyer: Why Willpower Isn’t Enough

Trauma, Burnout and the High-Performing Lawyer_675

Lawyers are trained to push through — to perform under pressure, meet impossible deadlines, and never show weakness. But what happens when the body and mind reach their limit — and willpower is

no longer enough?

In this powerful, high-impact session, Hayat Yussuf draws on her unique background in both corporate leadership and trauma-informed clinical practice to help lawyers understand the neuroscience behind burnout, recognize early warning signs, and leave with practical, immediately applicable tools to protect their performance, health, and career longevity.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

• Understand the neurological and physiological impact of chronic stress on high-performing professionals

• Identify the difference between stress, burnout, and trauma — and why that distinction matters

• Recognize early warning signs of nervous system dysregulation before breakdown occurs

• Practice two evidence-based regulation tools that can be applied immediately in daily professional life

• Understand when and how to seek confidential professional support to maintain performance and long-term career sustainability
