New York State Bar Association President David M. Schraver of Rochester (Nixon Peabody) issued the following statement today on the passing of Hon. Stewart F. Hancock, Jr., who died Tuesday at his home in Cazenovia. He was 91.

“As a jurist on New York’s highest court, Judge Hancock was recognized for his astute intellect, wisdom and humanity.

“After he stepped down from the bench two decades ago, those traits continued to guide his legal career, whether representing low-income individuals on a pro bono basis, testifying in London, Paris or The Hague about international commercial cases involving New York law, or teaching law students at Syracuse University.

“We extend our sympathies to his wife, Ruth, his family and his friends.”
