JANUARY 22, 2020: ROCHESTER ATTORNEY WINS STATE BAR’S KAY CRAWFORD MURRAY AWARD

Tiffany H.  Lee, chief of the appellate division for the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Western District of New York, is the 2020 recipient of the Kay Crawford Murray Memorial Award presented by the Women in Law Section of the New York State Bar Association.

Lee will receive her award on January 28 during the Association’s Annual Meeting in New York City. It recognizes an attorney who enhances diversity in the profession and advances the professional development of women attorneys.

“Tiffany Lee is deeply committed to supporting and promoting women attorneys, particularly women attorneys of color. In her community, she has helped make her bar associations better, more responsive and more inclusive,” said Terri A. Mazur, chair of the Women in Law Section. “She is a most deserving recipient.”

Lee is a past president of the Greater Rochester Association for Women Attorneys (GRAWA). During her presidency, she prioritized having a more diverse board and improving diversity throughout the legal community. As chair of its Diversity Committee, she played a key role in the Rochester Diversity Clerkship Program; it works with legal employers to hire diverse summer law clerks after completion of the 1L year. She also is a member of the Monroe County Bar Association’s Board of Trustees and the Rochester Black Bar Association.

She is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario. She received her law degree and masters in international relations, cum laude, from Syracuse University College of Law and Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs.

Honoring attorneys who render extraordinary service to the public and the profession is part of NYSBA’s Annual Meeting, which each January attracts thousands of lawyers from around the state, the nation and the world. They come to meet and connect with colleagues and to learn from experts in many areas of law.

A wide range of programs at NYSBA’s 143rd Annual Meeting January 27-31 explores current issues for lawyers and legal practice.

The Presidential Summit on Wednesday, January 29, will look at White Nationalism and Domestic Terrorism in America.  At Thursday evening’s sold-out Gala Dinner, U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Elena Kagan will receive the Gold Medal, NYSBA’s highest honor, and participate in a fireside-style chat with Prof. John Barrett of St. John’s University School of Law.

Other featured speakers at the Annual Meeting include New York State Attorney General Letitia James, the first African-American and the first woman elected to that office; Janet DiFiore, chief judge of the New York State Court of Appeals; and Craig Boise, dean of Syracuse University College of Law.
