The Commercial and Federal Litigation Section of the New York State Bar Association has recognized the Honorable Charles E. Ramos, senior justice of the Commercial Division in New York County, with its 2018 Stanley H. Fuld Award.

“The section is honored to confer the Fuld Award upon Justice Ramos in recognition of his longstanding commitment to not only the development of commercial law within the State, but also to his dedication to the enhancement of the practice and procedures of the Commercial Division,” said Mitchell J. Katz of Syracuse (Menter, Rudin & Trivelpiece) chair of the CommFed Section.

“As one of the ambassadors of the Court, he has worked hard to make sure that the global community is aware that the Commercial Division of the New York State Supreme Court is THE venue of choice for the resolution of commercial disputes,” Katz added.

The award, named for the late New York State chief judge, was presented on January 24 during the Bar Association’s Annual Meeting in New York City. The award is given for outstanding contributions to the development of commercial law and jurisprudence in New York. It was presented by New York State Bar Association President-elect Michael Miller.

Ramos was appointed to the bench of the Civil Court of the City of New York in 1983 after spending time as a senior partner at Benedict Ginsburg and Charles E. Ramos. From 1988 through 1993, Ramos served as an acting Supreme Court justice and supervising judge of the Civil Court in New York County. Ramos was elected to the Supreme Court in 1993. He has served as a Commercial Division justice in New York County since 1996.

Past recipients of the Stanley H. Fuld award include U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, former New York State Chief Judges Jonathan Lippman and Judith S. Kaye, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit.
