Thomas J. Maroney of New York City (Maroney O’Connor) was presented with the John E. Leach Memorial Award during the New York State Bar Association’s Annual Meeting January 28.
The award recognizes outstanding service and distinguished contributions to the legal profession as a member of the bar association’s Torts, Insurance and Compensation Law (TICL) Section.
“Tom Maroney is a politic and inspirational leader who is adept at building consensus,” said Robert H. Coughlin of Albany (Flink Smith Law), chair of the TICL Section. “He is a stalwart of, and is dedicated to, the TICL Section.”
Maroney serves as the Bar Association’s membership vice chair and past chair of the TICL Section. He has focused his practice on high-exposure, catastrophic and complex civil defense litigation. He is the New York State representative to the Defense Research Institute (DRI) and serves as membership vice chair on the DRI Law Practice Management Committee. He also is on the DRI State and Local Defense Organization Relationship Committee.
Maroney is a frequent lecturer on civil trial practice, negotiating strategies and alternative dispute resolution.
“The Section is very pleased that Tom is the recipient of the Section’s most prestigious award,” Coughlin added.
The New York State Bar Association, with 74,000 members, is the largest voluntary state bar association in the country. It was founded in 1876.
