Referrals are free.

Once you are referred to an attorney, there is a $35.00 fee for the first half hour consultation.

Exceptions are made for clients who have cases in the following areas of practice:

• personal injury,
• social security,
• medical malpractice,
• veteran’s and military law,
• unemployment or workers’ compensation.

Additional attorney fees are between you and the attorney. Please note, that the LRIS does not set the attorneys’ fees.

No, you’re under no obligation to hire the attorney you have been referred to, just as the attorney is under no obligation to take you on as a client.

You should be contacted within five (5) working days from the time you submit the referral. If you are not contacted in that time frame, please email lrs@nysba.org

Each attorney on the NYSBA LRIS is vetted by staff before being accepted on a referral panel. Every attorney’s bar registration is verified to ensure they are eligible to practice law in New York State.

Additionally, proof of insurance MUST be submitted to the LRIS by the attorney before they can begin receiving referrals. Attorneys on the LRIS panel also must provide proof that they operate an office in the counties the NYSBA LRIS serves.
