New York State Bar Association Sponsors Rule of Law Rally June 16

Dear Members,

Advancing the rule of law is one of the key pillars of our mission. As lawyers we have a special duty to ensure that the law governs everyone equally and courts and lawyers operate independently.

The New York State Bar Association – along with three other bar associations and a legal nonprofit – is sponsoring a Rule of Law rally at 1 p.m. at Foley Square Park in New York City on June 16th. The event is a celebration of Flag Day, which is on June 14th.

At the rally, several speakers will discuss how lawyers can learn how they can assist on issues such as immigration, voting rights, civil rights and legal services.  Those who attend are asked to wear business attire and come ready to re-take their lawyer’s oath.

“As lawyers and concerned citizens, it is incumbent upon us to make our voices heard. All the organizations who worked on making this rally happen have helped to amplify this message of solidarity in support of the rule of law, our constitutional democracy and judicial independence,” said Ronald C. Minkoff, NYCLA President and a primary organizer of the rally.

The New York County Lawyers Association, the New York City Bar Association, the New York Council of Defense Lawyers, and the Metropolitan Black Bar Association are organizing the rally.

The New York State Bar Association’s Executive Committee approved the sponsorship of this event.

Our mission is our North Star. At this event, we stand with our sister bar associations to demonstrate our commitment to the rule of law by re-taking our oath of office. The American flag is our most sacred symbol of our belief that abiding by a system of laws is paramount in a just society.
