New York State Bar Association Thanks Gov. Hochul and Legislature for Providing Clarification on Out-Of-State Notarizations
12.11.2024
Domenick Napoletano, president of the New York State Bar Association, issued the following statement about the out-of-state notarization bill signed by Gov. Kathy Hochul:
“We appreciate that the bill signed by Gov. Hochul provides much needed clarity on out-of-state notarizations. By eliminating the need for a certificate of conformity for an out-of-state notarization, New York State has taken a step forward in modernizing the Rules of Civil Procedure. We would also like to thank Senator Liu and Assembly Member Vanel for their leadership on this issue. As New York continues to move forward in this area, the New York State Bar Association stands ready to assist the governor and Legislature in contemplating more reforms to streamline our legal process and make our system more accessible to consumers and businesses.”
Previously, New York required that legal documents notarized from out of state have a separate form called a “certificate of conformity” completed in New York. In enacting this legislation, the state has removed unnecessary bureaucracy from the Rules of Civil Procedure.
