New York State Bar Association To Examine Hot-Button Issue of Challenges to the Rule of Law
3.6.2025
The New York State Bar Association will host a discussion on the challenges facing the rule of law in the state and the nation and what attorneys and courts can do to protect this sacred principle.
“The rule of law is the foundation of our democracy,” said Domenick Napoletano, president of the New York State Bar Association. “Without it, our society would devolve into chaos and violence. As legal professionals, we have sworn to uphold the values of the rule of law. As part of the New York State Bar Association’s mission to educate the public, we want everyone to understand what the rule of law means and why it must be protected from any attempts to dismantle it.”
The webinar, “Brave New World: The Rule of Law in 2025,” will take place on Friday, March 14, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Journalists are invited to attend but must contact Rebecca Melnitsky at rmelnitsky@nysba.org or Susan DeSantis at sdesantis@nysba.org.
The speakers will be:
- Barry Kamins, retired New York State Supreme Court judge, partner at Aidala, Bertuna & Kamins and adjunct professor at Brooklyn Law School.
- Carrie H. Cohen, partner at Morrison and Foerster, adjunct professor at the University of Pennsylvania Law School, and former assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York.
Napoletano will moderate the discussion. “I look forward to learning from our esteemed panelists,” he said. “Their decades of experience have given them insight into the issues that are creating conflict in our courts and public institutions.”
The course is free for New York State Bar Association members, as one of the many benefits of the association’s new, all-inclusive membership package. Attendees will receive one Continuing Legal Education credit.
