The New York State Bar Association is hosting a program for attorneys preparing for the challenges of retirement.

“Retirement is a significant change. The goal is to provide practical advice to ease that transition,” said Kathleen Sweet, president of the New York State Bar Association. “We can all benefit from the strategies that will be discussed.”

The program, “Sustaining the Self: Lawyer Wellness and Purpose After Retirement,” will take place on Wednesday, July 16, from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Topics will include finding meaningful opportunities in retirement, maintaining physical and emotional health, and creating a sense of purpose. Leaders from the New York State Bar Association’s Attorney Well-Being Program will guide the discussion.

The speakers will be:

  • Ann Lapinski, retired director of audit and investigation at the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and member of the Committee on Attorney Well-Being.
  • Jennifer Clayton, manager of the New York State Bar Association’s Attorney Well-Being program.

The course is free for New York State Bar Association members, as one of the many benefits of the association’s new, all-inclusive membership package. Attendees will receive one Continuing Legal Education credit in Law Practice Management. The program is sponsored by the association’s Lawyer Assistance Committee and Committee on Attorney Well-Being.
