New York State Bar Association To Host Seminar To Explain Recent Developments in Immigration Law
3.17.2025
As news about immigrants dominate headlines, the New York State Bar Association is holding a webinar to help attorneys understand issues in immigration law.
“As the child of immigrants, this is an area of law that is close to my heart,” said Domenick Napoletano, president of the New York State Bar Association. “No matter where people are from or their status, they have a right to legal representation. This seminar is intended to help attorneys better understand U.S. immigration law and be able to assist those in need. It is free for everyone because recent events and current discourse have shown that we all could use an explainer about these laws.”
The webinar, “ICE Enforcement for Non-Immigration Lawyers: What to Expect,” will take place on Thursday, March 27, from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Journalists are invited to attend but must contact Rebecca Melnitsky at rmelnitsky@nysba.org.
The program will cover basic immigration terms and concepts, recent executive orders that apply to noncitizens, and the rights noncitizens have when encountered by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and other law enforcement agencies.
The speakers will be:
- Sophie Feal, managing attorney at the Legal Aid Bureau Buffalo Holistic Representation Program.
- Robert Horne, managing attorney at the Regional Immigration Assistance Center of the Hudson Valley.
Attendees will receive 1.5 Continuing Legal Education credits. The program is sponsored by the association’s International Section and its Committee on Immigration Representation.
