The momentum of Annual Meeting 2023 continues into Day 2, as thousands attend this first in-person Annual Meeting since 2020.

Dozens of programs and events were held by nine sections including: 50+, Environmental & Energy Law, Tax, Women in Law, Torts, Insurance and Compensation Law, Real Property, Entertainment, Arts and Sports Law, and LGBTQ, among others.

  • “Is it wrong to be too polite?” The Women in Law section discussed the invisible barriers which still exist in the workplace and the legal profession. A panel discussion addressed recent state legislation and best practices to help ensure women are being paid equally and fairly.
  • The impact on video conferencing proved to be a hot topic in the Torts, Insurance & Compensation Law section. More cases and mediations are being handled either entirely via video conferences, or a hybrid because of Covid. Retired Appellate Justice Jeffrey Cohen, Abrams Fensterman, LLP and Attorney Jim Hacker, E. Stewart Jones Hacker Murphy LLP, offered their perspective and expertise on successful mediation.
  • Plenty of questions and answers on True Party of Interest in the Cannabis Law Section. Axel Bernabe, Chief of Staff for the Office of Cannabis Management discussed the New York State tiered solution of regulation and market structure. How to create a truly fair and competitive brand-new marketplace? That is this goal of this emerging industry.
  • Likeability and trust and how these attributes can be helpful in negotiations was the buzz at the Entertainment, Arts and Sports Law Section. Also, how best to represent your client while also dealing with the press and the pressure the media often brings. The experts on the hybrid panel agreed that planning and open lines of communication often ensure success.
  • The Tax Section filled the Grand Ballroom for its luncheon and programing at the second day of Annual Meeting 2023. The afternoon program, Order Out of Chaos: Planning in an Increasingly Complex International System. The panel presented updates on practical implications to changes facing the industry and clients.
