NYSBA To Host Free Program on Mobile Sports Betting and Problem Gambling

The New York State Bar Association is set to host a webinar on mobile sports betting – and what to do if it becomes a problem – on Monday, Aug. 17 from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
The program, “The New Gambling Landscape: Mobile Sports Betting and Prediction Markets,” is free for all to attend.
Participants will learn how to tell the difference between mobile sports betting and prediction markets and why their growing accessibility has expanded their reach and potential impact.
New York State legalized online sports betting in 2022. By 2025, nearly $58 billion in bets had been placed, according to the New York State Gaming Commission.
Panelists will also discuss problem gambling, including common warning signs, risk factors, and the effects gambling disorders can have on individuals, families, and professional lives. Finally, attendees will learn about available resources, treatment options, and support services for those who may be struggling with gambling-related concerns or who want to help someone else.
Katie Mibaum, team leader at the New York Council on Problem Gambling, will lead the webinar.
The association’s Lawyer Assistance Committee and Sports Committee are sponsoring the program.
