The New York State Bar Association will host “Modern Workplace Antisemitism,” a free CLE webinar on Thursday, Oct. 15, at 12 p.m.

The webinar will cover what drives modern antisemitism, how it manifests in the workplace, and the rights and obligations of employers to ensure a safe and respectful environment. The New York State Bar Association invites members and non-members to attend.

“The program will equip attorneys with the tools they need to advise their clients on creating a workplace safe for all its employees,” said Taa Grays, president of the New York State Bar Association. “It is our mission to ensure equal justice for all. We should not tolerate any kind of hate in the workplace.”

In 2024, the New York State Bar Association’s Task Force on Combating Antisemitism and Anti-Asian Hate recommended ways that New York State can improve the reporting and prosecution of hate crimes and prevent the spread of hate on the internet and in schools. As discussed in the report, antisemitism is “a certain perception of Jews, which may be expressed as hatred toward Jews. Rhetorical and physical manifestations of antisemitism are directed toward Jewish or non-Jewish individuals and/or their property, toward Jewish community institutions and religious facilities.”

Increases in anti-Jewish prejudice and hate crimes began escalating after the Hamas terrorist attacks three years ago. FBI crime statistics show that in the month after the attacks, reported incidents of antisemitic hate crimes tripled, and have generally stayed above pre-Oct. 7, 2023, levels since.

Locally, anti-Jewish hate crimes have accounted for more than half of the 425 hate crime incidents in 2026, according to New York City Police Department data, so far, despite Jewish New Yorkers making up only 10% of New York City’s population. Similar hate crime statistics were also reported in 2024 and 2025.

Rory Lancman, director of corporate initiatives and senior counsel at the Louis D. Brandeis Center for Human Rights Under Law, will present the webinar. Lancman previously served as a New York City Council member and a New York State Assembly member.

The program is sponsored by the association’s Labor and Employment Law Section. Attendees will receive one Continuing Legal Education credit in Diversity, Inclusion & Elimination of Bias.
