Sherry Levin Wallach, president of the New York State Bar Association, issued the following statement about the state Senate’s confirmation of Judge Rowan D. Wilson as chief judge of the Court of Appeals and the State of New York:
“The historic appointment and confirmation of Judge Rowan D. Wilson as New York’s first African-American chief judge is a significant milestone, bringing diversity, equity, and inclusion to the highest levels of state government. He is brilliant, conscientious, and thoughtful, and his history on the Court of Appeals proves that he is prepared to take over as its intellectual leader. His jurisprudence demonstrates his compassion, morality, and decency and his ability to ably represent New York within the state and beyond its borders. Under his stewardship, the reputation of the court system will remain strong, and the state’s highest court will continue to exert its influence nationwide. We look forward to working with Judge Wilson and strengthening the relationship between the bench and the bar.”
