Anti-LGBTQ Bias in the Criminal Legal System

AntiLGBTQBias_675

Speakers will discuss legal issues concerning juror and judicial bias in the criminal legal system using case studies. They will explain efforts to address how education, jury selection, and judicial codes of ethics are tools to safeguard from bias. Speaker Valena Betty will discuss her new book, Manifesting Justice: Wrongly Convicted Women Reclaim Their Rights (Citadel Press, June 2022). The book discusses Leigh Stubbs and her co-defendant Tami Vance, who were both convicted of a crime that never occurred because of homophobia, bogus bite mark evidence, and our fixation on the War on Drugs.
