New York’s Housing Crisis: Now What?
Earlier this year, Governor Kathy Hochul announced a plan to build 800,000 new housing units in New York State over the next decade. That plan, which would have required municipalities to meet certain housing targets, in particular near train stations, faced significant local opposition and failed to be included in the budget that just passed the state legislature. Where do we go from here? This CLE brings together representatives of state and local government, private practitioners, advocacy groups, and urban planners to offer ideas and strategies for what options remain available to tackle the housing crisis and encourage and incentivize affordable housing projects throughout the state.
