The Art of Lawyering: Reaching Your Audience
The rapid emergence of remote litigation-related proceedings has increased the need for effective advocacy skills. Remote proceedings, via digital meetings platforms or other technologies, create new challenges for lawyers, putting some into unfamiliar surroundings and requiring all lawyers to advance their clients’ and maintain professional composure while dealing with technical glitches or interruptions. This program will examine how lawyers might hone their skills to be effectively remotely in various stages of litigation. The expert speakers will:
- Consider differences in advocacy skills when lawyers are before a court by audio or video conferences as opposed to in-person appearances.
- Examine challenges to direct or cross-examination of expert witnesses in virtual proceedings.
- Suggest best practices to reach juries that are remote or in socially distanced courtrooms.
- Provide insights into post-pandemic proceedings and how lawyers might respond to opportunities for court appearances in-person or virtually.
