Message From the Co-Editors

We hope everyone had an enjoyable holiday season and we wish you a happy and healthy New Year. Katy and I are excited for 2024 and are looking forward to continuing to receive robust and interesting articles from you. Our next edition will be published in spring of 2024. Submissions will be due by March 1, 2024. If you have written any piece of interest to the section, please do not hesitate to contact us and submit for publication.

Katy and I continue to be very thankful to our section Chair Fern Finkel for her advocacy and assistance in obtaining an abundance of articles for this edition of our Journal. We have a robust line up of articles for your perusal. In this edition Lori A. Sullivan and Lisa Fenech detail the difficult process an executor has to go through to be released by beneficiaries. Amy O’Hara discusses recent court decisions involving the elder law community and special needs planning. Elizabeth Adinolfi provides an in-depth review of guardianship procedure and the difficulties those bringing Article 81 Guardianship proceeding face, and Esther Zelmanovitz provides an overview of the pros and cons of using a life estate to protect one’s home from Medicaid.

In addition, please be sure to read our Member Spotlight and take a look at our comic strip from Antony Eminowicz.

Lastly, I would like to congratulate my co-editor Katy Carpenter on the birth of her third son, Koen. Katy certainly has her hands lovingly filled with her three boys, Kruz, Kroy and Koen!

Happy reading,

Lauren C. Enea
