WILS is committed to addressing professional, legal, policy and legislative issues impacting women by creating programming and publications to educate and ignite support for women in New York and more broadly.
WILS started as a committee of NYSBA in 1986 with 30 members interested in having a NYSBA platform to focus on issues of gender bias and law-related issues affecting women. After 30 years of advancing women’s interests, in June of 2018, both the Executive Committee and the House of Delegates of NYSBA enthusiastically adopted a motion to create a Women in Law Section. We are now 1500 members strong.
What makes our Section both unique and valuable is that our members are from diverse professional backgrounds. We boast a membership from the public and private sectors, in-house counsel and consultants, as well as across every field of law.
WILS’ programming and its membership demonstrate that initiatives to support women’s issues in the legal profession is not only a matter of fairness and equality but also a strategic imperative for organizations seeking to promote diversity, enhance performance, and build a more inclusive legal profession and society.
Why Sponsor WILS?
- WILS’ programming and publications in 2023 attracted approximately 700 attendees (NYSBA members and non-members) and addressed issues from career strategies, organizational dynamics to current legislation and judicial actions.
- Sponsors are promoted at all WILS’ events and its website and are provided with opportunities to participate as speakers at events and publish articles in WILS Connect (WILS’ periodical which is available to the approximately 50,000 NYSBA members and the greater New York tri-state legal community).
We look forward to your support and collaboration.
